Did you know fifty years this May, The Beatles released “Let It Be”? This song has come to my mind many times in the last eight weeks as we have all been affected by COVID 19. You have come to my mind too. You are an important part of the work we do as your support is vital.
As you know, Family Services Ottawa (FSO) has been connected to music in many ways through our sold-out Music on a Mission event that takes place annually in October. Music and the arts are also at the core of our brand new event which premiered in 2019, Artistic Resilience. We see how important music and the arts have become during this time of isolation.
In 2020 we need to ‘let it be’ for our events and not move forward with them for the health and safety of our guests, volunteers and staff. This was a difficult decision and in many ways was not ours to make. Stay tuned for updates on our plans for 2021 and we look forward to the day we are together again in person.
Although we cannot be together in person, we need to come together in spirit. The loss of these two key fundraising events for us means great loss for mental health support.
“And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light that shines on me.” – The Beatles
During this cloudy time, you can be the light. You can help a neighbour, a family member or maybe a co-worker struggling with their mental health. Although this virus cannot be seen it is being felt in so many ways. From anxiety over job loss to managing working from home with little ones under foot to grieving the loss of a loved one during this time, many people are looking for help.
Family Services Ottawa never closed its doors. Our virtual doors were always open. Our dedicated staff are working with more people than ever. We can no longer be shy about it.
In this case, we cannot ‘let it be’! We need to shout it from the top of the tallest building in Ottawa.
You can be the difference in the life of a parent, a child, a spouse, a sibling, a senior or a friend. You can be the difference for someone feeling isolated and alone to feeling connected and heard.
Make your gift today and be the light for someone in our community who feels the world is dark. Your light will shine bright for someone in need.
